One of the more famous hiking trails in Cape Town is Kloof Corner. As another bonus, it is one of the easiest Table Mountain hikes. A walk to Kloof Corner is fun and doable for most people, as you do not have to be a pro at hiking to enjoy this trail. On your way, you will be rewarded with some stunning views overlooking Lion’s Head and the turquoise ocean. Kloof Corner is one of the beautiful hikes that you simply must do when in Cape Town.
Hiking Kloof Corner in Cape Town
Kloof Corner hiking trail starts at Tafelberg Road. To reach the starting point of the hike you must go up Tafelberg Road and park at the second parking area on the left – just after the first hairpin bend. From the parking area, you must cross the road so that you end up at the green gate. Here you will find a sign (you won’t miss it) that marks the start of the Kloof Corner trail.
The walk to Kloof Corner starts with a gradual incline with a few steps along the way. After this mostly straight section, the route begins to zig-zag up the side of Table Mountain. This part is where the climb really begins, as it is stairs for the rest of the hike. The last few meters are steep but very doable. Once you reach the top of the stairs you must turn right. Make your way around the corner – Voila you have reached Kloof Corner! Here you are rewarded with some stunning views of the Twelve Apostles, Lion’s Head, and Camps Bay. The views are just spectacular!
Is it difficult to hike Kloof Corner?
As mentioned earlier, Kloof Corner is one of the easiest hikes in Cape Town. This is especially because it is a short hiking trail compared to many of the other trails in the city. But even so, it is still a hike that requires some effort. Walking up so many stairs can be quite strenuous, which is why it is important you take as many breaks as you need. Especially the last steps to the top can be a killer.
We are beginners when it comes to hiking and found this trail a bitter harder than expected. Mostly because of the many steps – do not underestimate them! However, Kloof Corner is still a very good hiking trail for beginners as it is paved and well-marked.
Time spent hiking Kloof Corner
How much time you spend hiking Kloof Corner depends a lot on your fitness level and experience with hiking. On average it takes about 20 to 40 minutes for people each way. We would recommend you set aside one and a half hours for your hiking trip to Kloof Corner. That way you are able to enjoy the beautiful views along the way, as well as explore a bit when you reach the top.

NHi,
We hiked the trail without a guide, and didn’t look into any. Unless you are feeling unsure about going alone (i.e. if you are a single female), the hike is definitely doable without a group, and you will meet people along the way. However, I did a quick search, and found two tour guides for the hike. Mind you, we have no experience with them, but they may be worth checking out:
