Learn more about traveling in Africa
Some people like to travel somewhere without any preparations, any plans or the like. That is not us; we are planners, and we like to know where we are going, and to some degree also what we are going to do, where we are going to live, how to get around, et cetera. If that is you as well, then you have come to the right place.
If you are considering traveling to and in Africa then we can only recommend that you spend a little time reading our posts about the destinations, that we have visited in Africa. While we have not been everywhere on the beautiful continent, we hope that you can find some information and posts that fall within your area of interest and considerations.
We promise that there is a lot of great information and pictures of beautiful places, that are worth visiting, when going to Africa. As always we tell you about the amazing experiences, the practical things, that we had wish we had known before going, and of course also the things, that did not impress us as much as we had hoped.
Why should you travel to Africa?
While we often hear all the negative stories from Africa about pirates, dictatorships, warlords, hunger, et cetera, there are in reality just as many positive reasons to visit Africa. We will dive deeper into some of these reasons later, but let us first give you an overview of some of the things, that we love about Africa:
- It accounts for approximately 20 percent of the Earth’s entire landmass.
- It consists of more than 50 countries; each with several languages and cultures.
- It has a completely unique and diverse nature.
- It has a wide range of wild life.
- It has an interesting and important history.
All of these things are just some of the many reasons as to why you should travel to Africa. Whether you love visiting history museums, seeing old architecture, getting close to wild life on safaris, experiencing local cultures and languages or just enjoy spending time in nature, then you will find what you search in several parts of Africa.
Traveling in Africa: Unique cultures and amazing nature
As promised we will take a closer look at the some of the above mentioned reasons as to why you should get ready to some traveling in Africa. More specifically we will look at the many unique cultures, that has been created in the more than 50 different countries in Africa. We will also talk a little about the beautiful nature that is home to an amazing selection of wild life.
Cultures in Africa are many; it is said that there is as many as 3.000 native languages spoken throughout the continent. The many languages are a symbol of the different cultures; a tribe or group of people speaking one language will often have different rituals, ways of life, habits, et cetera. If you are willing to really experience some of these amazing and interesting cultures, it is definitely a possibility in Africa. Depending on you ambitiousness, you can do so by visiting different countries in the continent (and different parts of each country), or you can actively seek out different tribes, where you can get a really insight into traditional ways of life in parts of Africa.
When traveling in Africa, you will quickly realise that they have an amazing nature. Whether you travel in the north with deserts and rocky landscapes, in the central Africa with savannas and lush rain forests or in the Southern Africa you will find nature experiences and wild life unlike any other place in the world. It is without a doubt one of our favourite reasons to visit Africa, and no matter how many times we have been on safaris, we will definitely always dream about going on another – and you should too!
Safety when traveling in Africa
There is no doubt that Africa has a somewhat bad reputation when it comes to safety. As we have mentioned earlier, it is a continent that to some degree is plagued by unrest, which of course can result in dangerous situations; both for locals and tourists.
While there is no denying the above, we have generally found our travels in Africa to be safe. Our experience has been, that if you are careful and attentive, then you will not run into any trouble or problems, while travelling in Africa. However, this is of course not always the case, as your safety depends largely on where you are travelling in Africa.
Some countries, regions, cities, districts, et cetera are more dangerous for tourists than others. It is generally a good idea to always read up on the current situation in the country you are planning to visit; your country’s embassy in the country will typically be able to give you the necessary information as well as a recommendation as to which precautions you should take when travelling in Africa.
