A Visit to the Spectacular Oranjezicht Market

January 15, 2023

A trip to Cape Town is never complete without a visit to Oranjezict Market. This spectacular market is the perfect place to spend a weekend morning in Cape Town. Also known as the organic market, Oranjezicht City Farm Market is a farmers-style market where you will find local farmers and artisanal food producers selling their goods. The atmosphere is just incredible, and the food is delicious. Oranjezict Market is one of the markets in Cape Town you must visit.

Shopping at Oranjezicht Market

At Oranjezict Market you will find a lifestyle section with stalls selling everything from curated clothing, pet accessories, and ceramics to vintage items. The market is also the perfect place to visit if you are looking for fresh organic produce. Huge stalls with vegetables, herbs, and seasonal produce will leave your mouth watering. Baked goods, cheese, meat, and seafood are also some of the things that you can buy at the market. There is so much to choose from – it is almost impossible for it not to get out of hand. Several flower stalls are also to be found at the market and the bouquets are just stunning. Getting to Oranjezicht Market in Cape Town

The Oranjezict Market is located on Granger Bay Boulevard right next to the V&A Waterfront. If you are arriving by car you can park along Beach Road – but it can be a bit hectic. We would therefore recommend you park your car at the car park at Granger Bay. From here you are only a few steps from the market. If you rather take the bus, it is possible to make use of the MyCiTi 104 route, as it stops right across from the market on Beach Road. Alternatively, you can take the T01 line that stops at the main V&A Waterfront stop or on Granger Bay Boulevard, which is only a block away from the market.

Opening Hours of Oranjezicht Market

The Oranjezict Market is open every weekend year-round. On Saturdays the market is open from 08:15 to 14:00 and on Sundays, it is open from 09:00 to 14:00. From November to March the market is also open on Wednesdays from 17:00 to 21:00. During the night markets on Wednesdays, it is only the food market that is open. You are therefore not able to buy groceries, as per Saturday and Sunday.

How much time you spend at Oranjezict Market is entirely up to you. You can easily spend most of the day wandering the stalls, buying groceries, eating delicious food, and taking in the atmosphere. There are a lot of food options to choose from. Therefore, we often visit in the morning on an empty stomach. That way we can buy breakfast, walk around the market, and then eat lunch before leaving the market. To really soak up the setting of the market you should set aside at least 2 hours for a visit to Oranjezict Market in Cape Town.

Best time to visit Oranjezicht Market

The best time to visit Oranjezict Market in Cape Town is definitely in the morning hours. Visiting right around when the market opens will allow you to wander the market without too many people. This is one of the most popular markets in Cape Town and it can get really crowded – especially around lunchtime. Visiting in the morning is therefore best if you want a perfect weekend morning in Cape Town.
