Little Adam’s Peak is the smaller version of the famous pilgrimage route Adam’s Peak near Hatton in Sri Lanka. The hike to the top of Little Adam’s Peak is one of the most accessible and easiest hikes in Ella. If you want to enjoy an incredible view of the valleys of Ella a visit to Little Adam’s Peak is the perfect thing to do in Ella. There is no entrance fee for Little Adam’s Peak which is very nice. To walk among lush tea plantations and overlooking the mountains is definitely a must-do when in Ella.
Getting to the foot Little Adam’s Peak
Getting to the foot of Little Adam’s Peak, where the trail to the top starts, is possible in more ways.
The easiest way is driving with a tuk-tuk and getting dropped off at the 98 Acres Resort. At the resort, a white Buddha marks the trail towards Little Adam’s Peak.
It’s also possible to walk from the city center of Ella. That is a bit of a longer route but worth it if you like the Sri Lankan nature and walking. From the main road in Ella, it’s possible to walk about 4 kilometers to the start of the trail at the 98 Acres Resort.
We visited Nine Arch Bridge during the first hours of the day and from here we walked towards 98 Acres Resort. And we would recommend you do as well. Afterward, we went back to Nine Arch Bridge to watch the train pass.
The hike to Little Adam’s Peak
The trail towards Little Adam’s Peak is a very accessible and easy hike that has paths with signs showing the way.
The beginning of the trail starts near the entrance of the 98 Acres Resort. From there you will find signs showing you the way to Little Adam’s Peak. During the first part of the trail, you will walk through lush tea plantations – which may be full of tea picking ladies. The trail has a moderate incline through the plantations. But it’s nothing you should worry about – The hike to Little Adam’s Peak is doable for almost everybody.
From there you just should follow the signs and paths towards the top of Little Adam’s Peak. During the last part of the trail, you must walk up 350 steps to the big vantage point 1141 meters above sea level. When you get to the top you will experience an incredible view overlooking the valley and mountains of Ella.
The hike towards Little Adam’ Peak should take you about an hour – depending on your pace and number of breaks. We used about an hour and a half for our visit to Little Adam’s Peak. We walked nice and easy and took a lot of breaks to enjoy the stunning views.

When walking the trail towards Little Adam’s Peak some things are important to bring. Therefore, we have made the list below of things to bring:

- Proper shoes (meaning closed shoes and not flip flops)
- Sunscreen

Best time to visit Little Adam’s Peak
The best time to visit Little Adam’s Peak in Ella is either in the early morning or late afternoon. During the early morning hours, the crowds tend to be smaller, as well as the weather is not as hot as later in the day. Often the view is also better in the morning before the fog in the mountains is created. Late afternoon is definitely one of the best times to visit the peak as the light during the sunset is magical. The crowds can be bigger, as well as you should be aware that the walk back, in the dark, can be a bit difficult. But if you are a sunset lover we would absolutely recommend you visit Little Adam’s Peak in the late afternoon during sunset hours.
