4 Incredible Things To Do in Ella

October 4, 2022

Ella is a small town surrounded by nature. But don’t worry – even though it’s a small town there is plenty to do in Ella. If you follow our 3-week travel itinerary you will experience the train ride from Kandy to Ella, which is one of the world’s most scenic train rides. From the train windows, you will fall in love with Sri Lankan nature. Ella is a town filled with nature experiences and below you can read about 4 incredible things to do in Ella, Sri Lanka.

1. Walk along train tracks on the Nine Arch Bridge

The Nine Arch Bridge is a world-famous railway bridge, which you can’t miss when traveling around Sri Lanka. You can walk through the jungle to get to the amazing bridge. This beautiful piece of architecture hides between green and lush tea plantations. It’s a perfect location to get incredible pictures. So, remember to set enough time aside to enjoy the architectural wonder and the amazing nature surrounding it. Read our guide to the Nine Arch Bridge in Ella to get all the information you need for your visit.

2. Do as the locals: Visit the market

Every Wednesday morning there is a local market in Ella. Passara Road is filled with small stalls where it’s possible to buy clothes, fresh vegetables, spices, and fruit. If you don’t mind getting up early, the local market is one of the best ways to experience their everyday life and culture.

3. Climb Little Adam’s Peak

Little Adam’s Peak is the little brother to Adam’s Peak. If you are not ready for the big climb of Adam’s Peak the smaller Little Adam’s Peak is a good alternative. It’s a climb where most people have a chance to accomplish. There are stairs and footpaths all the way up, which is why it’s a manageable way to the top.

From the top, you will find a beautiful view over the valley of Ella. From here you can spend some time enjoying the view, maybe chill in the shadows or go exploring. Little Adam’s Peak is definitely worth a visit when in Ella.

Tip: On your trip, down from Little Adam’s Peak make a stop at 98 Acres Resort. Here you can enjoy lunch while looking over the valley.

4. Visit Ravana Waterfall

10 minutes out of Ella city center you will find Ravana Waterfall. It’s easily accessible from the main road and worth a visit. Both locals and tourists visit the waterfall daily to enjoy the beautiful nature and cold water.
