Mirissa is known as a surfers paradise. It’s one of the biggest beach destinations on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The area has it all: beautiful beaches, high waves, and delicious restaurants. If you follow our 3-week travel itinerary you will need some time to relax – and that is what you should do in Mirissa. But if you want to do other things than relax at the beach you can find some things to do below here.
1. Explore Parrot Rock
Right outside Mirissa Beach, you will find Parrot Rock. It’s possible to climb the rock and from the top, you can overlook the Mirissa area. The view is incredible and worth a visit.
To get to Parrot Rock you must pay attention to a few things. You have to walk through the water to get to the rock. Therefore, it’s important that you don’t climb the rock by the high tide or when there are high waves. It’s always a good idea to ask the locals for advice – they often know best.
2. Coconut Tree Hill
About 15 minutes from Mirissa Beach you will find a coconut farm on a hilltop. The view is very beautiful and perfect for Instagram pictures. It’s very easy to get to the Coconut Tree Hill because you can find it on Google Maps right here.
The best time to visit Coconut Tree Hill is as early in the day as possible. That way you miss the big crowds. And lastly, you should be aware of the coconuts – they tend to fall, so watch out.
3. Relax or play in the waves at Mirissa Beach
Mirissa Beach is a nice beach. It’s a long beach and you will not have a problem finding a place to relax. Also, there are some delicious restaurants where you can enjoy your food with a view of the ocean. It is also possible to play in the waves at Mirissa Beach. Either by yourself or with a surfboard.
4. Day-trip to Galle Fort
Galle Fort is one of our favorite places to visit. And it is definitely a place you can’t miss when traveling in Sri Lanka. You can easily use days inside the fort – but if your time is limited it is possible to take a day-trip to Galle Fort. In the fort, you can do some shopping, explore the old history or enjoy a magical sunset.
