Nusa Penida is an island full of nature’s wonders. A trip to Nusa Penida will leave you amazed by the incredible viewpoints, lush greenery, and crystal-clear water. Whether you spend hours or days in Nusa Penida, Broken Beach is one of the places you must visit during your trip.
Be amazed by Mother Nature
Broken Beach is a beautiful cove surrounded by a nature-made archway. This incredible beach has gotten its name from the archway that wraps around the bay and allows water from the ocean to flow in and out of the cove.
Unfortunately, it is not possible for you to climb down to the beach. But luckily the viewpoints from around the beach and archway are stunning. They will leave you amazed by Mother Nature.

Broken Beach in Nusa Penida is one of the easy attractions to visit in Nusa Penida. But even so, there are some things worth knowing before your visit.
Getting to Broken Beach
Getting to Broken Beach in Nusa Penida is possible in different ways. We would recommend you rent a motorbike/scooter for your stay in Nusa Penida. It is a perfect way of getting around the island – and getting to Broken Beach. Another way of getting to Broken Beach is by car, preferably with a private driver. Whether you go by motorbike or car it is quite easy. It should take around 30 to 50 minutes from the harbor – depending on the condition of the roads and the size of the crowds.
It is possible to park (a motorbike) when you are around Broken Beach. From there it is possible to follow signs which then will guide to first Angel’s Billabong and then further to Broken Beach. Therefore, it is perfect to combine a visit to these two attractions.
Time spent at Broken Beach in Nusa Penida
When visiting Broken Beach, you should set aside around an hour for your visit. That way you will have enough time to walk around the archway and take in the beautiful views.
Entrance fee
As mentioned earlier a visit to Broken Beach should be combined with a visit to Angel’s Billabong. A good reason for this, other than the close distance, is the combined entrance fee. Meaning that it costs 5.000 IDR for a combined entrance for both the billabong and the beach.
Keep in mind that the entrance fee is cash only.
Safety
When walking around Broken Beach and the archway there is no railing. So, you must be careful not to get too close to the edge. It is important to keep in mind that there is no way down to the beach – and therefore no way up again. Trying to climb down to the beach can be quite dangerous due to the tide and crashing waves. But if you stay on the walking path you should feel safe visiting this stunning place.
Best time to visit Broken Beach
The best time to visit Broken Beach in Nusa Penis is early in the morning. If you visit before 10:00 you will be able to skip most of the crowds. If you are not a morning person, it is also possible to visit in the afternoon – the crowds tend to be smaller than during the day, but it can be very hot due to the sun and a small amount of shadow.
We would always recommend a visit during sunset or sunrise as the colors are beautiful. Especially if you are staying on the island for more than a day.
